Caroline Richards’ involvement with Sweet Adelines for over 27 years combined with her boundless energy makes her the perfect director for an young and vibrant chorus like Vocal-Motion! She is not afraid of a challenge and has competed at the international level both as a chorus member and as a member of Rhapsody Quartet. Rhapsody placed in the top three for over 12 years in the regional contests and earned the opportunity to compete at international in Portland in 2000. It was as an assistant director of Chinook Winds Chorus that Caroline became a certified SAI director. Also during that time, Caroline was also honoured to receive the Best Bass voice award at the Acappella competition in Edmonton.
As a leader who welcomes opportunities for improvement for herself and the chorus Caroline arranges for coaching sessions with internationally recognized coaches thoughout the year; matching the needs of the chorus with coaches with high level skills is what keeps the chorus growing and moving forward. She is involved in every aspect of the chorus from Management and Music Teams to visual planning.
Through her leadership, Vocal-Motion! was ready to compete in the regional contest after only one year of being formed and took home a 3rd place Division A medal! During that same contest, Caroline was honoured as the recipient of the novice director award. Under her direction the chorus won first place in their second year, won 2nd place the following year. Their fourth they won Division A, smashing their previous record by 69 points, winning most improved, taking 3rd place over all in region 26, (Western Canada) and qualifying for Harmony Classic 2016 in Las Vegas where they took fourth place! What a ride!!! In 2017 Caroline again led the chorus to win a Gold medal at Regionals and second place overall with a score of 598 qualifying to again compete on the International stage in 2018 in St Louis! It was there that they were able to increase their Harmony Classic score by 71 points, acheiving the highest Showmanship score of all Div A and Div AA choruses competing and landing them fourth out of over 300 choruses world wide!
With her commitment, determination, and passion Caroline is excited to lead Vocal-Motion! into the next great adventure of this journey!
